Universal Gateway Holdings (Pvt) Ltd has expanded its presence in Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry with the launch of a new dual-dining destination combining Thai Fusion and Global Kitchen under one roof at 60 Davidson Road, Colombo 4, near Duplication Road.
The new five-storey property in Bambalapitiya forms part of the company’s broader strategy to grow its food and beverage operations across Sri Lanka and the region. Universal Gateway Holdings Chairman and Managing Director Mohamed Afthab said the group currently operates 11 outlets and aims to increase this number to between 30 and 40 restaurants over the next three to four years.
According to Afthab, the company’s expansion strategy is not solely focused on increasing its outlet count. Instead, Universal Gateway Holdings intends to introduce distinctive restaurant concepts and international cuisines while maintaining consistent standards across its growing portfolio.
The newly opened property operates every day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is designed to cater to a broad customer base, including corporate clients, families and international visitors.
Thai Fusion occupies the ground and mezzanine levels of the building and offers a fine-dining experience centred on authentic Thai cuisine. The restaurant has a seating capacity of 70 and is operated by a specialised team of chefs recruited from Thailand.
Its menu includes a selection of traditional Thai dishes, ranging from salads and soups to aromatic curries, seafood preparations and signature desserts. The company says authenticity will remain a key focus of the Thai Fusion concept as it looks to introduce the brand to additional locations around Sri Lanka.
The upper floor houses Global Kitchen, an 80-seat multi-cuisine restaurant designed to appeal to customers seeking a wider variety of international flavours.
The restaurant places particular emphasis on imported premium steaks and gourmet burgers, while also offering Pakistani, Chinese, Indian and other international dishes. The concept is intended to bring multiple cuisines together in a single dining environment.
The official launch of the combined restaurant destination was held under the patronage of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Dr. Rizvie Salih and Sarah Salih. The event was also attended by heads of diplomatic missions representing Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Türkiye and Vietnam, along with business leaders and other invited dignitaries.
Universal Gateway Holdings currently operates 11 outlets across Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Its existing portfolio includes four Indian Summer restaurants located in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Galle, alongside four Global Kitchen outlets and its Thai Fusion operation.
In the Maldives, the group operates Indian Summer and Global Kitchen from an integrated property, further extending its presence within the regional hospitality market.
The company is also preparing for its next phase of expansion. Universal Gateway Holdings plans to bring a recognised Indonesian restaurant franchise to Colombo within the next six months, adding another international cuisine concept to its growing food and beverage portfolio.
The expansion reflects the group’s broader ambition to develop a diverse collection of restaurant brands while strengthening its position within Sri Lanka’s increasingly competitive hospitality and dining industry.
