Wickramarachchi Hearing Care, in collaboration with the Wonderful Sound Project and Signia, presented 50 hearing aids to beneficiaries of the WISH Foundation at a special World Children’s and Adults’ Day celebration held recently.
The initiative brought together organisations committed to improving access to hearing care and creating greater opportunities for individuals with hearing loss to communicate, connect and participate more fully in everyday life.
The occasion formed part of the celebrations marking 50 years of Wickramarachchi Opticians & Hearing Care, recognising five decades of service in vision and hearing care in Sri Lanka. As a long-standing partner of the company, Signia donated the 50 hearing aids for the initiative while professional and technical support for the beneficiaries was provided by Wickramarachchi Opticians & Hearing Care.
This initiative also reflects the work of the Wonderful Sound Project (WSP), a global, employee-powered programme of Denmark-based hearing healthcare leader WS Audiology that supports community-based hearing health initiatives around the world. Through WSP, the employees and partners of WSA collaborate to help close the hearing care access gap in underserved communities.
The key highlight of the programme was the presentation of 50 Signia hearing aids to WISH Foundation beneficiaries. Following the presentation, the Wickramarachchi Hearing Care audiology team carried out individual hearing-aid fittings, ensuring that each recipient received the professional support required for the proper use of their device. The event also recognised the wider commitment behind the initiative, with the ceremonial presentation of a donation representing 100 hearing aids from Signia to the WISH Foundation. The contribution underscores the combined efforts of Wickramarachchi Hearing Care, Signia, WSA, WSP and WISH Foundation to help expand access to hearing solutions for individuals in need. Another important milestone was the official opening of the Signia Mobile Unit by Wickramarachchi Hearing Care, further supporting efforts to extend access to professional hearing-care services. The event was attended by several distinguished guests including High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka David Pine, High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka Matthew Duckworth, J.M. Wickramarachchi President Dr. Mihira Wickramarachchi, J.M. Wickramarachchi CEO Liza Wickramarachchi, Cole Lomas representing the WISH Foundation, WSA Southeast Asia Managing Director April Chong and WSA Southeast Asia Regional Sales Manager and Senior Audiologist Eason Lek together with healthcare professionals, partners and beneficiaries.
Dr. Mihira Wickramarachchi stated, “As Wickramarachchi Opticians & Hearing Care marks its 50th anniversary, the organisation continues its long-standing commitment to hearing and vision care while working with local and international partners to create lasting improvements in the lives of individuals and communities across Sri Lanka. This collaboration between the WISH Foundation, Wickramarachchi Hearing Care, Wonderful Sound Project, Signia and WSA demonstrates the value of partnerships in addressing hearing-care needs and supporting individuals who may otherwise face barriers in accessing appropriate hearing solutions.”
