BYD opens 11th showroom in Negombo

BYD, a leading new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, together with its authorised Sri Lankan distributor John Keells CG Auto (JKCG Auto), has expanded its local presence with the opening of its 11th showroom in the country.

The new BYD showroom officially opened on September 11 at No. 254, Chilaw Road, Negombo, strengthening the brand’s retail network in Sri Lanka’s Western Province. The latest outlet joins BYD locations already operating in Colombo, Galle, Kurunegala, Kandy, Ampara and Rathnapura.

The Negombo showroom further extends BYD’s reach along the Western Province’s coastal belt, giving customers in Negombo and surrounding areas easier access to the company’s electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle range.

Customers visiting the new location will have access to the same sales support and customer service offered across BYD’s existing Sri Lankan network. The facility will initially operate as a showroom, while plans are in place to develop it into a fully-fledged 3S facility providing sales, service and spare parts under one roof.

The showroom will display several models from BYD’s current range, including the BYD SEALION 5, BYD SEALION 6, BYD SEALION 8, BYD ATTO 1, BYD ATTO 2, SHARK 6 and BYD DOLPHIN.

JKCG Auto Chief Executive Officer Charith Panditharatne described the opening of the 11th showroom as an important milestone for BYD’s operations in Sri Lanka. He noted that the local market has evolved from building awareness around NEVs to seeing them become an increasingly familiar option among Sri Lankan vehicle buyers.

According to Panditharatne, the company’s focus is now on expanding its retail network while strengthening the support infrastructure required to give customers greater confidence in adopting new energy mobility across the country.

As part of efforts to develop Sri Lanka’s NEV ecosystem, Keells has already deployed 43 chargers across the island. In addition, BYD’s recently announced strategic partnership with GreenEV provides access to a further 73 chargers.

Together, these developments bring the total public charging network accessible through these initiatives to 116 chargers across all nine provinces of Sri Lanka, supporting the continued expansion of electric mobility nationwide.
