Celebrating 45 years in Sri Lanka’s food commodity industry, Omega Traders has entered a new phase of growth with the opening of its modern lentil and orid dhal processing facility in Wattala.
Located at 258, Canal Road, Wattala, the new facility is designed to strengthen the company’s processing capabilities while supporting the growing demand for quality lentils and dhal products across Sri Lanka.
The inauguration was attended by Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Matthew Duckworth as the chief guest, while Sri Lanka Standards Institution Director General and CEO Dr. Siddhika G. Senaratne joined the event as the guest of honour.
Omega Traders has supplied mysoor dhal to consumers across Sri Lanka for more than two decades, building an extensive network of wholesalers, retailers, distributors and other customers. The new processing facility marks an important development in the company’s long-standing operations, allowing it to improve both production capacity and product quality.
The red lentil processing facility has an estimated production capacity of around 150 metric tonnes during an eight-hour working day. This increased capacity is expected to help Omega Traders meet the requirements of its existing customer network while creating room for future expansion.
The facility is equipped with new-generation machinery covering key stages of the processing operation, including cleaning, processing, sorting and quality control. This technology gives the company greater oversight of its production processes and helps maintain consistent standards.
Advanced colour-sorting systems are used to detect and remove unwanted grains and foreign materials, while quality checks are carried out at several stages of production. Monitoring begins with the arrival of raw materials and continues throughout processing until the final product is ready for distribution.
With the opening of the new facility, Omega Traders is combining its four-and-a-half decades of experience in Sri Lanka’s food commodity sector with modern processing technology, strengthening its ability to serve consumers and business customers in the years ahead.
