Mixed secondary market sentiment, with buying edging ahead

Secondary market activity remained mixed yesterday, with both buying and selling interest observed throughout the trading session. However, buying interest was marginally stronger, resulting in a slight downward movement in yields across the belly of the yield curve.

Moderate trading volumes were recorded during the day, although overall market activity remained relatively subdued. In the short-tenor segment, the 15.10.2028 and 15.12.2028 maturities traded within the range of 10.90% to 10.75%, while the 15.09.2029 maturity traded at 11.05%.

Within the 2030 segment, the 01.08.2030 and 15.10.2030 maturities traded between 11.45% and 11.35%. Further along the curve, the 01.02.2031 maturity traded within a range of 11.65% to 11.40%.

At the longer end of the curve, the 15.12.2032 maturity traded between 11.80% and 11.70%, while the 01.11.2033 maturity traded between 12.00% and 11.95%. Meanwhile, the 15.09.2034 maturity traded within a range of 12.20% to 12.17%.

In the foreign exchange market, the Sri Lankan Rupee depreciated against the US Dollar, with the exchange rate standing at LKR 331.89 per US Dollar, compared with LKR 330.18 previously.

Liquidity in the banking system also contracted, declining to LKR 317.84 billion from LKR 336.44 billion recorded previously.
