SLID rings bell at CSE to mark 25 years

The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) celebrated 25 years of advancing corporate governance with a ceremonial ring the bell event at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), symbolising the link between good governance and investor confidence.

The SLID has evolved into Sri Lanka’s premier professional body for directors, with over 1,000 members representing more than 800 companies, while its programmes have reached over 20,000 participants.

Commending the SLID’s contribution to strengthening governance, CSE Chief Executive Officer Rajeeva Bandaranaike stated, “At the CSE, we share this commitment, as strong governance remains the foundation of investor confidence and sustainable capital market growth.”

SLID Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody noted, “For 25 years, the SLID has championed the belief that strong boards build strong organisations and strong organisations contribute to a stronger nation.”

He added that good governance must go beyond compliance to foster accountability, resilience and sustainable value creation.

SLID Chief Executive Officer Anitra Perera looked ahead: “This is more than a celebration of 25 years; it is a commitment to the next 25.”

To that end, the SLID is introducing new director education modules on emerging governance challenges, expanding its engagement with public sector boards and deepening international partnerships.

It also aims to elevate the National Corporate Director Awards.

As the SLID enters its next quarter-century, its mission remains clear: empowering directors, strengthening boards and advancing better governance for a stronger Sri Lanka.
