Despite the school vacation, an impressive 102 enthusiastic students gathered at Wycherley International School – Gampaha to participate in a three-hour AI workshop organized by AIconomy Summit in collaboration with ANC Education and the school. The remarkable turnout reflected the growing enthusiasm among young learners to understand Artificial Intelligence and its role in shaping tomorrow’s world.
Rather than relying on conventional classroom lectures, the programme immersed participants in interactive activities, collaborative challenges, live demonstrations, and practical AI exercises. Students explored how AI can become a valuable partner in education, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving while learning why ethical and responsible AI usage is equally important.
Building Practical AI Literacy
Throughout the workshop, students developed a stronger understanding of Artificial Intelligence while gaining practical knowledge that can be applied in both their academic journey and future careers. The sessions focused on making AI accessible, engaging, and relevant for the next generation.
- Understanding what Artificial Intelligence really is.
- Recognizing the difference between AI-generated content and authentic information.
- Using AI as a positive tool for education and future careers.
- Preparing for the rapidly evolving AI revolution.
- Developing critical thinking and responsible AI practices.
Learning from Industry Leaders
Adding further value to the programme, Ms. Nethusha Ravisuthan, Operations Manager at Microsoft Sri Lanka, shared valuable industry insights and encouraged students to view AI not merely as technology, but as an opportunity to innovate, solve real-world problems, and create meaningful impact.
The excitement continued throughout the workshop as more than 40 prizes and giveaways were presented to students who actively participated in challenges, discussions, and hands-on activities, making learning both enjoyable and memorable.
The event was successfully coordinated on behalf of ANC Education by Ms. Usha Dharmalingam and Ms. Sharani Logeswaran, whose commitment ensured a seamless and rewarding experience for every participant.
A Nationwide Movement for AI Education
A special note of appreciation was extended to Ms. Erandi Godamanna, Vice Principal of Wycherley International School – Gampaha, for her visionary leadership and unwavering support in bringing this important initiative to students. Her encouragement reflects the school’s commitment to equipping learners with future-ready knowledge and skills.
The workshop forms part of the AIconomy Summit Islandwide AI Education Initiative, a nationwide programme delivering impactful AI workshops across Sri Lanka through leading local and international AI professionals. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and emerging technologies while empowering schools and universities to confidently embrace the future of Artificial Intelligence.
Upcoming AI workshops are already scheduled in Kurunegala, Kandy, and at ANC Colombo on 12 September, where internationally recognized UI/UX and AI Consultant Nisal Tharanga will lead another immersive AI learning experience.
