The David Pieris Group has secured three prestigious national awards at the Presidential Environmental Awards 2026, winning two Gold Awards and one Silver Award in recognition of its commitment to environmental sustainability, operational excellence and responsible business practices.
The awards recognise environmental initiatives implemented at three facilities operated by the Group. These include the DPMC Workshop service centres in Madapatha and Matara, operated by David Pieris Motor Company (Private) Limited, and the assembly plant at the Ranna manufacturing complex, operated by David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Limited.
The achievements highlight the Group’s continued efforts to integrate environmentally responsible practices across its operations, with a particular focus on renewable energy, water conservation, wastewater treatment, resource efficiency and responsible waste management.
The DPMC Workshop service centre in Madapatha secured a Gold Award following its previous recognition with a Merit Award in 2024 and a Bronze Award in 2025. The centre provides vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair facilities, with its environmental initiatives contributing to a consistent improvement in operational sustainability.
Key initiatives include rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment and reuse, the adoption of renewable energy, responsible waste management and resource conservation. These measures have helped strengthen the centre’s environmental performance while promoting more efficient use of resources throughout its operations.
The assembly plant at the Ranna manufacturing complex also received a Gold Award on its first participation in the Presidential Environmental Awards. The recognition reflects the plant’s comprehensive environmental management practices and its efforts to incorporate sustainability into industrial operations.
Its environmental initiatives include rainwater harvesting, the use of ponds within the premises to support water management, renewable energy projects, systematic waste management and measures to reduce carbon emissions. The facility’s Net Zero Energy Certification further demonstrates its commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable industrial practices.
Meanwhile, the DPMC Workshop service centre in Matara received a Silver Award on its first participation in the competition. Its environmental initiatives include rooftop solar power systems and wastewater treatment facilities that allow approximately 95% of treated water to be reused for vehicle washing.
The centre has also introduced measures to improve resource efficiency and minimise hazardous waste and environmental pollution. These efforts demonstrate how practical environmental management measures can be incorporated into everyday vehicle servicing and maintenance activities.
Together, the three awards reflect the David Pieris Group’s broader commitment to integrating environmental responsibility across its businesses. Through continued investment in renewable energy, water conservation, wastewater treatment and responsible waste management, the Group aims to reduce the environmental impact of its operations while improving resource efficiency.
The recognition also highlights the importance of environmental performance across the facilities supporting the Group’s automotive operations. Rather than focusing on individual products, the awards assess the overall environmental performance of the relevant facilities, recognising their efforts in responsible manufacturing, vehicle assembly and automotive servicing.
These achievements align with the Group’s sustainability strategy, DPG STEP, which stands for Sustain, Track, Empower and Progress. The framework promotes measurable environmental improvements and responsible business practices across the Group’s companies.
Through these initiatives, the David Pieris Group continues to strengthen its environmental performance and resource conservation efforts, reinforcing its commitment to supporting a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Sri Lanka.
