FOUNDATION.LK, the social empowerment arm of LK Domain Registry, has received national recognition for its Hithawathi Teens Hub Expansion Project, which secured a Gold award at the National Project Management Excellence Awards (NPMEA) 2026 organised by the PMI Colombo, Sri Lanka Chapter.
The project was recognised under Category 13, Best Managed Project in Community Development/NGO, highlighting its project management practices and contribution towards creating safer digital environments for young people in Sri Lanka.
The award represents a significant milestone for FOUNDATION.LK and Hithawathi, reinforcing their ongoing efforts to promote cyber safety, responsible digital engagement and digital empowerment among communities across the country.
FOUNDATION.LK CEO Niroja Jayawickrama said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of everyone involved in developing and expanding the Teens Hub initiative.
“This recognition is a proud moment for FOUNDATION.LK and the entire Hithawathi team. It also recognises the collective efforts of our partners, education authorities, teachers and students who contributed to making the Teens Hub initiative a success,” she said.
The Hithawathi Teens Hub programme was initially launched as a pilot initiative aimed at establishing dedicated spaces within schools where students could learn about cyber safety, develop an understanding of responsible digital behaviour and share their knowledge with fellow students.
Following the success of the pilot programme, the initiative was expanded with sponsorship from LK Domain Registry. The expansion came after a request from LK Domain Registry Domain Registrar and CEO Prof. Gihan Dias to extend the programme to a larger number of schools.
Through the expansion, Hithawathi Teens Hub continues to support young people with knowledge and resources to navigate the digital environment more safely and responsibly.
