HMD, the European mobile phone manufacturer behind Nokia-branded phones, has partnered with Dialog Axiata PLC to introduce its latest range of affordable 4G feature phones to the Sri Lankan market, including the HMD 101 4G and HMD 102 4G.
The partnership brings together HMD’s established hardware expertise with Dialog’s nationwide network coverage, supporting Sri Lanka’s ongoing transition from legacy 2G technology to modern 4G LTE connectivity while making enhanced mobile communication more accessible to consumers.
Feature phones continue to play an important role in Sri Lanka’s mobile ecosystem. They serve as primary communication devices for many households while also remaining popular as reliable secondary phones among professionals and travellers looking for a simple device or a digital break from smartphones.
The new HMD 4G models are designed to address everyday communication needs while providing features such as HD voice through VoLTE, improved network reception, USB Type-C charging, IP52-rated splash resistance and extended battery life.
The HMD 101 4G is positioned as a practical option focused on everyday reliability. It comes with a 2.0-inch display, dual-SIM 4G VoLTE connectivity, a USB Type-C charging port, an MP3 player, wireless FM radio and a dual LED torch.
The HMD 102 4G adds a more contemporary design to the lineup, featuring a rounded body and a smartphone-inspired rear camera module with LED flash. It also includes auto call recording and other practical utilities while retaining the core 4G connectivity features.
Both models are equipped with removable 1,000 mAh batteries, offering up to eight hours of talk time and up to 625 hours of standby time.
Vivek Khandelwal, General Manager, Emerging Asia at HMD, said the company aims to maintain a long-term presence in Sri Lanka by offering devices across different price segments. He noted that the HMD 101 4G and HMD 102 4G form part of the company’s entry-level 4G feature phone portfolio while maintaining its product standards, with Dialog helping make the devices accessible to customers nationwide.
Gayan Wijethilaka, Country Head for Sri Lanka, Nepal and Singapore at HMD, said consumers continue to choose feature phones for their simplicity, durability and longevity. He added that 4G connectivity enhances the experience with clearer calls while maintaining the reliability associated with the category.
Lim Li San, Group Chief Operating Officer of Dialog Axiata PLC, said the transition towards newer network technologies should provide improved connectivity options for customers across different segments. He added that the partnership with HMD is intended to make 4G connectivity more affordable and accessible through practical device choices, supporting clearer calls and reliable connectivity for Sri Lankan consumers.
