The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided a US$200 million loan to Sri Lanka to support reconstruction and livelihood recovery following Cyclone Ditwah.
The Post-Cyclone Ditwah Reconstruction and Livelihood Support Project will be implemented from 2026 to 2030.
The funds will be used to repair and reconstruct cyclone-damaged roads, restore damaged irrigation systems, provide agricultural assistance to affected families and provide housing restoration grants.
The Transport, Highways and Urban Development Ministry will oversee the project.
The Road Development Authority will handle road rehabilitation, while the Irrigation Department and Mahaweli Authority will be responsible for restoring damaged irrigation systems.
The Agrarian Development Department will provide agricultural assistance, while the National Disaster Relief Services Centre will provide housing support.
The loan agreement was signed at the Treasury in Colombo yesterday (18) by Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government and ADB Sri Lanka Resident Mission Country Director Shannon Cowlin on behalf of the ADB.
