Miss Asia Pacific International 2026 bets bring resort feels to pageant stage

The Miss Asia Pacific International 2026 Grand Coronation Night opened with a colourful celebration of tropical fashion and island culture as 38 international delegates brought a resort-inspired atmosphere to the stage in Cebu, Philippines, on October 10.

Held at Mactan Expo in Lapu-Lapu City, the opening presentation featured the contestants wearing short, flowing dresses in pastel shades, designed by Filipino fashion designer Vince Sityar. The delegates danced to the pageant’s upbeat theme song, creating a lively introduction to the international competition while showcasing the relaxed elegance associated with tropical resort destinations.

The presentation reflected the Philippines’ appeal as an island destination, with its vibrant culture, coastal landscapes and reputation for welcoming international visitors. It also set a celebratory tone for an event that brought together contestants representing 38 countries and territories.

Reigning titleholder Isabela Fernandes of Brazil joined the contestants onstage, accompanied by her runners-up, Bowonrat Maneerat of Thailand and Elmira Wildboer of the Netherlands. Their appearance added an international dimension to the Filipino-inspired opening, highlighting the connections formed through the competition.

Cebu hosted the pageant for the second consecutive year, reinforcing the province’s growing presence as a destination for international events. The region is known for its beaches, island attractions, cultural heritage and hospitality, making it a fitting setting for a competition that combines beauty, fashion and cultural exchange.

Celebrating Culture, Connection and Beauty

The 2026 competition was guided by the theme “Beauty Bridging Borders”, built around three central pillars: Culture, Connection and Crown.

According to pageant president Eva Patalinjug-Lim, these pillars reflect the event’s focus on celebrating cultural identities, building international relationships and recognising the achievements of women from diverse backgrounds.

The resort-inspired opening aligned with this vision by combining contemporary fashion, music and choreography with the festive atmosphere of a tropical celebration. The pastel-coloured outfits offered a softer alternative to the elaborate evening gowns traditionally associated with beauty pageants, while the coordinated performance brought energy and movement to the stage.

Beyond the competition itself, international pageants provide a platform for cultural exchange, allowing delegates to introduce their countries to global audiences through fashion, traditional attire, personal stories and participation in local activities.

The Miss Asia Pacific International pageant has a history dating back to 1968, when it was established as Miss Asia Quest. It subsequently expanded its regional focus to cover the wider Asia-Pacific region before adopting the Miss Asia Pacific International name in 2005 as the competition broadened its international reach.

Sri Lanka Earns International Recognition

Sri Lanka also made a strong impression during the preliminary events through its representative, Sandeepa Sewmini Don Samarasinghe Disanayake, who won the Best in National Costume title at the competition held at the historic Mactan Shrine on September 27.

Her winning creation drew inspiration from the Sri Lankan peacock, an iconic feature of the country’s natural heritage. The costume incorporated ethically sourced feathers and detailed craftsmanship to present a design that connected cultural representation with a message about protecting wildlife.

Disanayake explained that the peacock was selected because of its significance in Sri Lanka and the importance of protecting the species. She also acknowledged the support of her national costume designer and national director, Rukmal Senanayake, during the preparation process.

The Philippines’ representative, Gabrielle Galapia, finished as first runner-up in the national costume competition, while Cambodia’s Ry Srey Neth secured second runner-up. The event allowed contestants to showcase their countries’ traditions, heritage and creativity through distinctive designs.

Sri Lanka’s achievement added another highlight to the country’s participation in the international pageant, placing its cultural identity and craftsmanship before an international audience.

Gabrielle Galapia Represents the Philippines

The host country was represented by Gabrielle Galapia, who entered the competition after placing Second Princess at the 2026 Miss World Philippines pageant in February and earning the Miss Asia Pacific International Philippines title in June.

Galapia attracted attention during the preliminary rounds, winning recognition in both the swimsuit and evening gown categories. She was also named Darling of the Press during the pageant’s press presentation, adding to her growing list of achievements ahead of the final.

Her performance carried the hopes of the Philippines, a country with a strong record in international beauty competitions. Five Filipinas have previously won the Miss Asia Pacific title, according to the pageant’s historical record cited in the event coverage.

Although Galapia advanced to the final five, the international crown ultimately went to Thailand. Her performance nevertheless gave the host country a prominent presence throughout the competition.

Thailand Claims the Miss Asia Pacific International 2026 Crown

The grand finale concluded with Sofia Sasiwararin Atsawahirankarn of Thailand crowned Miss Asia Pacific International 2026, succeeding Isabela Fernandes of Brazil.

Costa Rica’s Gia Angelique Franceschi was named first runner-up, followed by South Africa’s Nompumelelo Amandla Malindi as second runner-up. The Philippines’ Gabrielle Galapia secured third runner-up, while Mexico’s Itzel Idolina Silva Borbon completed the top five as fourth runner-up.

The final results brought together contestants who had represented their countries through fashion presentations, cultural showcases and preliminary competitions. The event celebrated not only the pursuit of the international crown but also the diversity of the participants and the experiences they shared throughout the programme.

Cebu Showcases the Philippines to an International Audience

The 2026 edition placed Cebu at the centre of an international pageant gathering, offering an opportunity to promote the province’s tourism industry and cultural attractions to audiences beyond the Philippines.

By incorporating resort fashion, national costumes and international participation, the event connected beauty pageantry with destination promotion and cultural exchange. The opening presentation, in particular, drew attention to the Philippines’ island lifestyle through contemporary fashion and an energetic performance inspired by the country’s festive atmosphere.

The competition also demonstrated how international events can create opportunities for local hospitality providers, event venues, designers and creative professionals while introducing visitors to the host destination.

With its theme of “Beauty Bridging Borders,” Miss Asia Pacific International 2026 concluded by celebrating the connections that can emerge when women from different cultures come together on one international stage.
