Sampath Bank-Bancstac enable Google Pay acceptance for merchants

Sampath Bank has expanded its digital payment capabilities by enabling businesses to accept Google Pay through the Sampath Bank Internet Payment Gateway (IPG), powered by Bancstac.

The new capability allows merchants to seamlessly add Google Pay as a payment option, giving customers access to a secure and frictionless checkout experience using biometric authentication on Android devices.

For merchants, the integration provides an immediate opportunity to expand their digital payment acceptance across e-commerce platforms, mobile applications and digital invoices. By offering Google Pay, one of the world’s widely used digital wallets, participating merchants can potentially reach more than 250 million wallet users across 85 countries.

Importantly, businesses that already use or are in the process of onboarding to the Sampath Bank IPG do not require additional technical integration or development to enable the payment method.

When a customer selects Google Pay at a merchant’s checkout page, the Sampath Bank IPG facilitates the transaction through tokenisation, ensuring that sensitive card details are not exposed or shared during the payment process. Cardholders are authenticated through security measures such as biometric verification and device passcodes.

Once authentication is successfully completed, Bancstac processes the transaction in real time, while financial reconciliation is automatically handled through Sampath Bank’s standard settlement process. This enables merchants to maintain a streamlined approach to payment processing and accounting.

Sampath Bank Card Centre Head Chirath Samarasekara said the bank continues to adopt technologies that enhance customer engagement while creating tangible value across its payment ecosystem.

“At Sampath Bank, we continually adopt new technologies that drive higher customer engagement and add tangible value to our payment ecosystem. We are proud to extend our strategic partnership with Bancstac to deliver the Google Pay capabilities to our extensive merchant base. This solution provides our business partners with an effortless tool to grow their business to more customers and countries whilst offering the convenience and security of Google Pay,” he said.

Bancstac CEO Evan Lau said the introduction of Google Pay removes technical barriers for merchants seeking to offer a widely used digital wallet to their customers.

“By enabling Google Pay, we have eliminated technical barriers for merchants wishing to accept one of the most widely used digital wallets globally. This payment innovation gives the Sampath Bank merchants the tools to help increase sales conversions, reduce cart abandonment and enhance the digital payment experience for their customers,” he said.

The integration further strengthens Sampath Bank’s digital payment ecosystem while giving businesses a convenient way to expand their payment options and provide customers with a secure digital checkout experience.
