Indeewari Chandrasekara MILT, Executive Committee Member of WiLAT Sri Lanka, has received the Global Star of WiLAT (SoW) Award 2026, recognising her contribution as an emerging woman leader in the logistics, transport and supply chain sector.
The prestigious international award was presented during the CILT International Convention 2026, held at the Hopewell Hotel in Hong Kong.
The Star of WiLAT Award is an initiative of Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT), established to recognise young and emerging female professionals who demonstrate leadership, innovation and meaningful contributions to the logistics, transport and supply chain industries.
In addition to recognising professional achievements, the programme serves as a leadership development and succession initiative aimed at identifying and supporting women who can contribute to the future growth of WiLAT and the wider industry.
WiLAT operates as a global network under the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), providing women with opportunities for professional development, mentoring, networking, knowledge exchange and leadership. WiLAT Sri Lanka forms part of this international network and works alongside WiLAT Global to promote women’s professional advancement and leadership development in the country.
Chandrasekara’s recognition reflects several years of involvement with WiLAT Sri Lanka. Her journey with the organisation began in 2018 as a mentee of the IGNITE Mentoring Programme. She later returned as Project Chair of IGNITE 11 for 2025/26, taking on a leadership role in the programme and supporting the development of emerging professionals in the industry.
Reflecting on the recognition, Chandrasekara said WiLAT had played an important role in her professional and leadership development, from providing her with opportunities as a mentee to enabling her to contribute as a mentor and project leader.
She highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for the next generation of women to take on leadership roles, innovate and build successful careers within the logistics, transport and supply chain sector.
During her tenure, Chandrasekara also contributed to strengthening industry partnerships for WiLAT Sri Lanka, helping create internship opportunities for IGNITE mentees. These initiatives supported stronger links between academia and industry while providing young professionals with practical experience and career development opportunities.
Her involvement with WiLAT and CILT has also extended to international and national initiatives. She previously served as Editor of Wings of Change, the global WiLAT newsletter, while at CILT Sri Lanka she contributed as Editor of Link Magazine and served as Project Chair of the Ideathon, an international virtual initiative conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chandrasekara is a Gold Medallist and graduate of the University of Moratuwa and a CIMA Passed Finalist. She currently serves as Unit Supply Chain Manager at Unilever Sri Lanka, where she contributes to areas including supply chain transformation, operational excellence, digital innovation and capability development.
WiLAT Sri Lanka congratulated Chandrasekara on the international recognition, highlighting her continued efforts to mentor, inspire and empower emerging professionals across the logistics, transport and supply chain fields.
