Seylan Bank’s Islamic Banking Unit secures 3 SLIBFI Awards

Seylan Bank’s Islamic Banking Unit has received three awards at the SLIBFI Awards 2025/2026, recognising its work in Shariah-compliant financing and individual performance within Sri Lanka’s Islamic banking and finance sector.

The bank secured the Gold Award for Deal of the Year for financing a 10MW solar power project, while its financing of a Broiler Farm Expansion Project received the Bronze Award for Deal of the Year. The awards also included an Individual Merit Award for Rising Personality of the Year (Male).

The recognition highlights Seylan Bank’s efforts to develop Shariah-compliant financial solutions supporting key areas of Sri Lanka’s economy, including renewable energy and agriculture.

The Gold Award-winning solar project contributes renewable electricity to the national grid and supports Sri Lanka’s wider renewable energy objectives. Meanwhile, the Broiler Farm Expansion Project supports agricultural activity and food security, demonstrating the application of Islamic financing principles to projects with broader economic benefits.

Seylan Bank Islamic Banking Unit Head Sameer Mohamed said the team was honoured to receive three awards at the SLIBFI Awards 2025/2026. He said the recognition reflects the unit’s efforts to develop innovative, Shariah-compliant financial solutions that create value for customers while contributing to Sri Lanka’s economic development.

Mohamed also acknowledged the contribution of the project finance team, management, Shariah Supervisory Board and other stakeholders in delivering the recognised initiatives.

The awards also highlight the role of Seylan Bank’s Islamic Banking Unit and project finance team in providing financing solutions across different sectors. The bank combines Shariah-compliant financial principles with practical funding structures designed to support businesses and economic activity.

The two recognised projects demonstrate how Islamic finance can be applied to initiatives that deliver wider economic and community benefits, from renewable energy generation to agricultural development and food security.
