Sri Lankan Rupee Continues Upward Momentum Against the US Dollar
The Sri Lankan Rupee recorded a further gain against the US Dollar today (19), extending its recent strengthening trend in the foreign exchange market as the local currency continued to appreciate against several major global currencies.
According to the latest exchange rates released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the buying rate of the US Dollar eased from Rs. 329.18 to Rs. 328.85, while the selling rate declined from Rs. 339.06 to Rs. 338.70 compared to the previous trading day.
The appreciation reflects the Rupee’s continued resilience amid improving market conditions and positive sentiment in the foreign exchange sector.
In addition to its gains against the US Dollar, the Rupee strengthened against a range of key international currencies, including the Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Euro, Pound Sterling, and Swiss Franc.
The latest movement highlights the local currency’s broader upward trend, supported by improving foreign exchange inflows and strengthening external sector indicators. Market observers note that sustained stability in the currency market remains an important factor in supporting business confidence, trade activity, and overall economic recovery.
As global economic conditions continue to evolve, investors and businesses will be closely monitoring exchange rate movements and their impact on import costs, export competitiveness, and foreign investment flows.
